Every plastering job is different, so we tailor the approach to the property, the substrate and what you want the finished surface to do. Below is a bit more detail on how we handle each of the services above.
Skimming & Re-Plastering
Skimming is the finishing coat applied over plasterboard or an existing base coat, and it's what gives a wall or ceiling its final smooth surface. We mix and apply the plaster in two coats, trowelling and polishing each pass so the surface is flat, free of trowel marks, and ready to take paint without further filling. Where a wall has failed completely, whether through age, damp or poor previous work, we'll hack it back to a sound base and re-plaster from scratch, including a bonding or browning coat where the background needs it.
External Rendering
We fit and finish sand and cement renders, modern monocouche systems and silicone-based through-colour renders depending on the look and maintenance level you're after. All render work starts with beading, mesh where required over insulation or mixed backgrounds, and correctly specified movement joints, because most render failures trace back to preparation rather than the finishing coat itself. We also carry out repairs to existing render, blending patches into the surrounding texture and colour.
Dry Lining & Partitioning
For extensions, loft conversions and internal reconfigurations we build stud partitions in timber or metal frame, board them with the right grade of plasterboard for the location (standard, moisture-resistant or fire-rated), and finish with a skim or taped-and-jointed finish depending on what the design calls for. We also dry line solid masonry walls where insulation or a faster finish is wanted instead of a traditional wet plaster coat.
Repairs & Patching
Cracks, holes and areas of blown plaster are cut back to a sound edge, filled and finished to match the surrounding surface, including texture where the original wall isn't perfectly smooth. Where damp has caused the damage, we address the underlying issue first, whether that's ventilation, a leak or rising damp, so the repair actually lasts rather than failing again within a year.
Coving & Ceiling Roses
We fit both original plaster coving and modern lightweight alternatives, mitring corners cleanly and filling joints so the run looks continuous rather than pieced together. Ceiling roses are fitted centred on the light fitting or room, scribed to the ceiling profile, and finished flush with the surrounding plaster so there's no visible step or gap.
Artex Removal
Textured Artex ceilings are stripped back and skimmed smooth, giving rooms a more contemporary look and making future decoration far easier. Because textured coatings applied before the early 1980s can contain asbestos, we assess older ceilings carefully and follow safe working procedures throughout removal, sealing and disposing of material correctly rather than dry-sanding it.
